Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What is quantify?
quantify is an educational platform that lets you explore quantitative trading strategies. It shows how systematic approaches to investing have performed in backtests, with clear rules and results you can study.
2. Does quantify give investment advice?
No. quantify is not an investment adviser. The app does not provide personalized advice, recommendations, or trade execution. All information is for educational purposes only.
3. How are strategies rebalanced?
Yearly strategies: Holdings reset on the first trading day of the year.
Quarterly strategies: Holdings reset on the first trading day of each quarter.
Monthly strategies: Holdings reset on the first trading day of each month.
Between rebalances, the portfolio remains unchanged.
4. How are holdings weighted?
All strategies in quantify are equally weighted.
Example: If a strategy selects 10 stocks, each stock makes up 10% of the portfolio.
5. What does “Estimated Return” mean?
The “Estimated Return” shown in quantify is the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) from historical backtests. CAGR represents the average yearly growth rate of an investment over a period, assuming reinvestment.
6. What is CAGR, in simple terms?
Think of CAGR as the “smoothed-out” yearly return. It answers: “If this portfolio grew the same amount each year, what steady growth rate would equal the total performance?”
7. Do backtests include fees, taxes, or slippage?
No. Backtests in quantify are price-only simulations. They do not include trading commissions, management fees, slippage, or taxes. Actual returns would likely be lower.
8. Where does the data come from?
Market data comes from third-party vendors (such as market-data APIs). While we aim for accuracy, data may sometimes be delayed, revised, or incomplete.
9. Can I invest directly through quantify?
No. quantify does not execute trades or connect to brokerage accounts. It is a learning tool, not a trading platform.
10. Why do strategies sometimes perform better or worse than SPY?
Strategies are rule-based and may outperform or underperform benchmarks like the S&P 500 depending on market conditions. Past performance is not a guarantee of future results.
11. How often is information updated?
Strategies update automatically at each rebalance period (monthly, quarterly, yearly). Prices and benchmarks update as provided by third-party data vendors.
12. Who can use quantify?
quantify is intended for educational use by U.S. residents age 18 or older.
